I have been watching several Korean movies in the last years and I keep updating my all-time Korean favorite movies list. You can find a lot of different genres for all tastes; drama, comedies, historic, war, action, zombies, etc. I hope you enjoy these movies and if you have watched any other good Korean movies, please share it with me in the comments section in below.
The list is in sorted, starting from my favorite:
1. The Handmaiden (2016)
With the help of an orphan handmaiden, a Korean man who pretend to be in the Japanese side tries to seduce a Japanese woman to take her inheritance. The story happens during Japanese occupation of Korea in 1930.
2. Castaway on the Moon (2009)
A man’s suicidal attempt ends up in him stuck in a small island in Han River. He survives for several months and meets someone very special. This is one of my favorite Korean movies. This is one of my favorite all time Korean movie.
3. The Attorney (2014)
A tax attorney realizes that money is not everything. He defends a young boy accused for being a communist against the government. It’s based on a true story of the previous president of Korea.
4. A Taxi Driver (2017)
A widowed father and taxi driver drives a German reporter from Seoul to Gwangju to cover the uprising of the students in 1980. The taxi driver doesn’t expect the violence with which the military represses the protests. The movie has a lot of action and at points might bring some tears to your eyes. You will be surprised that it’s based on a real story.
5. Ode to my father (2014)
During the Korean War, a young boy is separated from his father and younger sister. He has a tough life taking care of his family and trying to find his lost family members.
6. Welcome to Dongmakgol (2005)
Soldiers from South Korea and North Korea get lost and end up living in a village in the middle of the mountains. In this village nobody knows anything about wars. An American US soldier also happens to join them in there. A really nice movie with a mix a part of laugh and war drama. Probably the funniest Korean movie I have ever watched.
7. Train to Busan (2016)
There is a zombie outbreak in South Korea. The passengers of a train from Seoul to Busan face many troubles to survive.
8. Miracle in cell no.7 (2013)
A single dad with mental retardation is imprisoned for a crime he didn’t committed. As a result, his daughter ends up alone in an orphan. A really touching movie with a great story, get ready to cry a lot.

9. The Beauty Inside (2015)
This movie is about the story of a man that changes it appearance every time he wakes up. Sometimes he is a man, a woman or even a person from another country. He falls in love with a woman and tries to conquer her with all the difficulties that this implies due to his problem…
10. A Violent Prosecutor (2016)
A prosecutor lawyer is jailed even though he is innocent. He tries to find the real culprit from the prison with the help of a professional cheater.
